Germany: Rötteln Castle

Today I biked to Rötteln Castle in Germany. The castle (according to Wikipedia, as my German is not good enough yet to read the historical signs) is in records as existing as far back as 1102, if not earlier. Revolts by peasants, Swiss occupation, an earthquake and deconstruction by french troops scrounging for building materials have all done damage to the structure over the centuries.

The Castle sits quite high over the town and I had to ditch my bike to make the climb. The view from the tower is spectacular, however, and well worth it.

I am definitely going to make a point of bringing my lovely sister here when she visits in October.
